Football Alberta, with support from the Mitchell Foundation, is running its first ever SuperClinic on March 7 & 8, 2025 in Edmonton at the Westin Hotel. For the past couple of years we have run an Officials Clinic but now want to expand the educational experience to include Equipment Managers and Athletic Therapists/Trainers.
This is where coaches come in. We've all had to rely on well meaning volunteers to cover off one or both of the duties of equipment management and paramedical support for our teams and sometimes it's hard to find information on how to support what they do. In the area of equipment management for example, it gets more complicated with the helmet alone to stay up to date each year about repair, recertification etc.. In a recent study it was found that 69% of high school football coaches are not confident in their ability to properly fit a helmet - which is a bit concerning to say the least. Concussion management for "trainers" also is subject to updated information each year that sometimes that info has a hard time trickling down to the people you have on your sideline.
Some teams and/or leagues do an excellent job of getting qualified people for these roles, but most of you know that an information session to give them the latest and greatest updates is a much needed thing. Plus, you will take great steps to reduce your own personal and team liability for potential litigation, similar to having your assistant coaches take Safe Contact, if you keep your support personnel up to date.
These are the people who help make our teams run and keep our players safe. They deserve a clinic of their own.. Plus, thanks to the Mitchell Foundation it is absolutely free to attend. As an added bonus, the Social on Friday Night will have the Grey Cup in attendance and an opportunity for people to get their picture taken with it. Please see the schedule attached and the link to registration below that you can pass along to your people. It may be free but we still need to know how many people will be there so please have your people register in advance for the free sessions by February 17th at the latest. We will still take registrations after that but may have to charge a late fee.
Should they need a nights stay in Edmonton, a link in the registration to the rate for one night's accommodation and breakfast at the Westin as well.
