Football Alberta has expanded their Board of Directors to keep pace with the two most burgeoning aspects of their membership growth - youth flag football and women’s football. Both aspects of the game have been growing exponentially. Several youth flag football leagues have sprung up since before and after the COVID break now totally over 4000 participants province wide. As for the women’s side of things, continued growth is occurring on the youth flag side for girls with high school and junior high leagues now present in both major cities, and strong growth on the tackle side with both Edmonton and Calgary featuring 6-a-side leagues for high school aged girls that also encompass other areas of the province such as Okotoks, Red Deer, Wetaskiwin and Fort McKay. Football Alberta’s U18 Women’s team is also the two time defending champions at the Football Canada U18 Women’s National Championship and in the spring of 2024 Football Alberta will be hosting its first ever U18 Girls Provincial Championship Game.
As a result, Football Alberta is delighted to expand its BOD to include people representative for continued growth and development in those two areas. Please welcome:
YOUTH FLAG REPRESENTATIVE - Darryl Draudson
Darryl had been a fixture in the Edmonton football area for decades having coaches at the elite level with both the U of A Golden Bears and the Edmonton Wildcats. He recently served as the Executive Director of the Capital District Minor Football Association before moving on to his current position with Northern Alberta Flag Football Association.
WOMEN’S REPRESENTATIVE - Elisha Torraville
A former Team Alberta Senior Women’s player, Elisha was instrumental in the creation of the all-female league supported by Calgary Bantam in 2022.
