Alberta Pride!
On July 10, 2024, our U18 Men's Provincial Team participated in the semi-final of the Football Canada Cup in Regina vs. Quebec. During the course of the tightly contested contest, officiating errors at the end of the game stripped Alberta of a hard fought victory and gave Quebec an opportunity to kick a field goal with no time on the clock which they converted to win 12-11.
While we at Football Alberta, on behalf of the entire football community in Alberta, find this both distressing and disappointing, we would like to thank Football Canada, which upon post-game review, publicly acknowledged this egregious error on their social media sites. We also acknowledge that despite that public recognition, we have to accept the ruling from Football Canada that games do not get overturned post-contest for human error - even in worst situations such as these.
The main intent of this release is to commend the 50 coaches, players, and staff, plus the families of the players for Team Alberta for the outstanding display of character and class in the face of an obvious injustice.
