Football Alberta is proud to announce a new partnership with educational resource leader Castle Rock Research Corporation. Established in Alberta, Castle Rock has been helping students across North America improve academic achievement results for more than 25 years. Through the Partners in Education initiative, Football Alberta members will be eligible for exclusive pricing on Castle Rock’s digital resource: SOLARO.
PARTNERS IN EDUCATION
Football Alberta is committed to finding ways to improve and enrich the lives of those involved with football across the province. One of the foundational values of Football Alberta is growth - and we are excited by this new opportunity to expand our membership offering. Through Partners in Education, Football Alberta is able to offer all student-athletes from grades 3-12 additional educational resources at a significant discount. A one-year subscription to SOLARO retails for $200, but Football Alberta members can purchase it for only $20. By partnering with Castle Rock Research, Football Alberta is one of the first sport organizations across Canada to formally offer academic support to its student-athletes. Football Alberta is dedicated to the development of its youth members both on and off the field, and we will continue to work with organizations who share in our passion for helping student-athletes succeed.
“Football Alberta is committed to continuing to look for ways to give value to our membership,” says Tim Enger, Executive Director at Football Alberta. “We feel this agreement with Castle Rock and their Partners in Education program does just that. The sport of football has always valued education as a huge part of the development of an individual, along with the character-building the sport itself can provide. For those of our members who are looking to take advantage of post-secondary opportunities that football can provide - SOLORO could be the difference between opening the doors to those opportunities or not. We highly support this program and encourage any members of our association to whom this could be of benefit to take advantage of it.”
SOLARO (Student-Oriented Learning, Assessment, & Reporting Online) is a top-tier educational resource that provides students in grades 3-12 with access to lessons, practice assessments, and study tools on an easy-to-navigate digital platform. Students also have the ability to review assessments with complete, detailed solutions to ensure comprehension and retention of the material. In addition to these tools afforded to the student, parents have the ability to monitor and view academic progress in SOLARO. With lessons and learning objectives that align with Alberta’s educational curriculum, SOLARO is an extremely valuable tool that can supplement classroom learning - especially during such unprecedented times. SOLARO has educational supports for all of the core courses including Mathematics, English, Social Studies, and all Sciences (Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics). A student with SOLARO access has the ability to enroll in 10 courses at any one time, and may select courses from any grade level. Learn more about SOLARO.
“When considering which young men we are going to recruit and bring into Golden Bears Football, academic performance is our most important measure,” says Chris Morris, Head Coach of the University of Alberta football team. “We bring in student-athletes that place a priority on their studies as this mindset, more than any other, will ensure their success as a U SPORTS student-athlete. Academic success is an indicator of maturity, work ethic, attention to detail, and many attributes essential to someone's ability to grow into being an elite U SPORTS athlete. If young people who aspire to play at the U SPORTS level are not placing a huge priority on their academic performance, they are making a huge mistake.”
Football Alberta recognizes that being a student-athlete often means juggling a busy schedule. With competitions, practices, strength training, conditioning, and travel all loaded into their schedules, student-athletes are forced to manage their time more effectively than the average student. SOLARO is designed to supplement classroom learning, and is available to students 24/7, either online or through the app. Football Alberta is committed to improving student-athlete achievement both on the field and in the classroom, which is why we are excited to offer SOLARO to our members at a 90% discount off the retail price. By joining Partners in Education, Football Alberta is ensuring that families have the opportunity to leverage their membership for significant savings on SOLARO.
“Academic success is often the result of strong work ethic, a positive attitude and using time effectively and efficiently,” says Barclay Spady, Principal at Bev Facey Community High School. “Supporting students and athletes by ensuring they have access to comprehensive support resources is critical for those who want to be successful in high school and post-secondary learning. Educational institutions are always exploring opportunities to ensure students are set up for long-term academic success, in addition to any athletic and mental health supports that may be in place. As a result of education limits from remote learning, students need diverse resources to foster academic excellence.”
