Football Alberta’s Board of Directors, has for the second year in a row, approved the opening up of the traditional July blackout period for Minor Football in Alberta. In normal years, the month of July would be a period of time where teams and clubs at the minor levels would not be allowed to do any on-field programming or practicing. Due to the COVID Pandemic, and similar to last year, Football Alberta will now allow participation on-field for July leading up to the fall season of play. The caveat for this opening in 2021 is that July is only to be used to programming that was lost in the spring due to Provincial Health Orders. This would include spring camps and spring seasons for leagues who traditionally went in the spring. It is not for extended preparation for the fall season and August 1st will remain the start date for the opening of training camps. Each member league in the province will be responsible for determining how their teams or clubs will function in July based on the above parameters and supervise accordingly.
NOTE: This does not apply to the High School level of play. They are still subject to the ASAA Seasons of Play guidelines and direction from their school and school district administration.
It is our sincerest hope that our entire football community in the Province will be up and running as per usual come this fall. The July blackout lifting is just to give us a helping hand in preparation for such. If there are any questions or concerns please contact your league administration or the Football Alberta office.
